Loki Season 2 Revealed Ant-Man’s Villain

Loki Season 2 Updates: Loki not only adds to the God of Mischief’s heritage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he also gently solves Ant-Man’s enemy.

Loki not only tells a time-traveling yarn about the God of Mischief, but he also gently solves an Ant-Man villain problem. Ant-Man introduced Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015. Lang and his allies were performing their own heists to thwart Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), a.k.a. Yellowjacket, long before the Avengers pulled out a time heist against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Yellowjacket, a former protégé of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), attempted to sell size-changing technology to HYDRA before being foiled by Ant-Man.

Loki is brimming with Easter eggs. While some appear to be throwaway gags, such as a reference to Scream, others appear to have a deeper meaning.

For example, the episode frequently alluded to Kang the Conqueror, a villain who has already been confirmed to feature in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Fans have speculated that Kang may appear in Loki based on all of the Easter eggs.

There are also numerous allusions to The Wizard of Oz. In fact, there are so many references to the Wizard of Oz in Loki that it appears they may foreshadow how the series would conclude.

One of the many Easter eggs in Loki episode 5 solves a significant Marvel problem. Loki episode 5 takes place largely in the Void at the end of time. The Time Variance Authority throws variations who deviate from their route to the Void, therefore it’s packed with Marvel Easter eggs.

Among the Easter eggs are many enormous stone-like heads, one of which appears to be Yellowjacket himself. It’s unclear how a massive Yellowjacket helmet ended up in Loki, and the series is unlikely to provide an answer. The MCU, however, retcons Ant-adversary Man’s with the appearance of Yellowjacket’s massive helmet.

Loki immediately adds to Yellowjacket’s appeal. Yellowjacket was one of the MCU’s most forgettable villains prior to Loki episode 5. Unlike Hiddleston’s Loki, whose deception makes him an ideal counterpart to his hulking brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Yellowjacket shares many of Ant Man’s abilities.

There isn’t anything about him that stands out. Loki episode 5 changes that, making Yellowjacket more appealing right away. Yellowjacket appears to have the potential to expand to enormous proportions in at least one scenario.

The emergence of Yellowjacket’s helmet indicates that the TVA either pruned a huge version of Yellowjacket or that the villain crossed the Quantum Realm and ended up as an Easter egg in the Void at the end of time.

The Yellowjacket helmet may have additional MCU implications. Though Stoll’s Yellowjacket appears to die in the 2015 film, with his failing suit crushing him into subatomic size, the character is apparently featured in the next Quantumania (via Vanity Fair’s Still Watching).

If he survived Ant-Man, the helmet might have belonged to the first Yellowjacket. It may foreshadow where his tale may go in the future. On the other side, it could simply be an Easter egg with no meaning. In any case, the villain was an afterthought in 2015, and this new Easter egg assures he isn’t anymore.
