In a recent interview, action star Vin Diesel suggests that a new Riddick video game will act as an additional chapter in the sci-fi franchise.
Vin Diesel, who has starred in popular action film franchises such as The Fast and the Furious and The Chronicles of Riddick, recently hinted at a new Riddick video game in development. In the sci-fi franchise The Chronicles of Riddick, Vin Diesel plays the role of dangerous intergalactic felon Richard B. Riddick. Apart from the three films, the franchise also has two video games named Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena.
Many popular sci-fi franchises have taken up the Riddick video games as an example. Many sci-fi franchises have branched off into the world of gaming. One of them being James Cameron’s Avatar. Ubisoft recently revealed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an open-world adventure set in the iconic world of Pandora. Although the trailer for the game showed nothing about the gameplay, it gave a glimpse at the reimagined planet of Pandora. Players will be able to explore the lands and the new regions, encountering the memorable creatures from the film franchise and also the new tribes of Na’vi. Ubisoft is also developing a new open-world Star Wars title, adding another massive title to its repertoire.
Vin Diesel on New Riddick Video Game dedicated to the Franchise
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Vin Diesel discussed the possibility of a new Chronicles of Riddick video game. The actor was discussing the next movie in the Riddick franchise when the video game spin-offs came up. Diesel mentioned the success of the 2004 video game Escape from Butcher Bay and said, “We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter,” implying that a new game would add an extra chapter to the franchise and expand the canonical story.
The previous two video games of the Riddick franchise have met with critical acclaim. It proves that The Chronicles of Riddick franchise lends itself well to a gaming experience. As the character Riddick lives on the fringes of society, a survival experience similar to Icarus may be a clever direction to take Riddick’s next video game on. Icarus is an upcoming sci-fi survival game that provides an isolated and strategic experience. A survival game would perfectly fit Vin Diesel’s Riddick.
The Riddick franchise is two decades old and still going strong with a fourth film, Riddick 4: Furya, in production. A new game would be a perfect companion to the new film. The previous two games were action/stealth mode and it would be interesting to see if the new game would be the same or would go in a different direction. Anyway fans are advised to look out for more hints on the matter.
