The Orville Season 3 Updates: Seth MacFarlane says that season 3 of The Orville is complete, and he is optimistic about the show’s future. The comedy stars MacFarlane and follows Ed Mercer and the crew of the spaceship USS Orville as they sail throughout space on different missions for the Planetary Union.
The main cast members of the series are Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and Jessica Szohr.
The Orville was panned by reviewers when it originally aired on Fox in 2017, due to tonal contradictions between a loving tribute to Star Trek and a campy parody of the famed series.
The show was renewed for a second season after drawing a larger audience for Fox. It aired in 2018 to significant acclaim from reviewers for finding a better balance of tones and storytelling while retaining good ratings.

The decision was to shift the series to Hulu after it was previously renewed for season 3 at Fox because of recurrent production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic since filming began in October 2019.
After nearly two years of work on the next part of the series, the Orville season 3 production has officially finished, according to MacFarlane. The announcement was accompanied by an emotional letter to his cast and crew, in which he thanked them for their hard work on the new season and expressed his wish to collaborate with them again on future episodes of the show.
In addition to MacFarlane stating a desire to return to space with The Orville’s cast and crew, producer Tom Costantino recently confirmed that, despite a false claim to the contrary, Hulu has not terminated the series early.
While MacFarlane just inked an overall creative deal with NBCUniversal, The Orville’s shift to Disney-owned Hulu may be a more convincing reason for the sci-fi comedy to get a second season. Only time will tell how the comedy and its Hulu season 3 premiere prosper in the future.
