The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5: Fred Waterford exposed as Nichole’s father after blood clue?

Published by

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Updates: The Handmaid’s Tale season four ended with June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) exacting harsh vengeance on Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) for the cruelty he inflicted on her.
Many are concerned that June will be tormented by the Commander for the rest of her life after discovering a blood clue indicating that he is the biological father of baby Nichole. In the finale, June was clutching her baby daughter despite being covered in his blood, as she returned home from No Man’s Land.
Fans are concerned that coating Nichole in Fred’s blood is a clue that he, not Nick Blaine, is the father (Max Minghella) “When I got to the scene where June is spreading the blood on Nichole, I asked why is the show showing June getting blood on her?” one viewer wondered. “June thinks she’s rid of Fred at the end of the season finale, but his blood is physically on Nicole,” they hypothesized.
One reader said it could be a way for June to show that she did it for her daughter, Nichole. Another speculated that Nick is actually the father of June’s two children. Others disagreed, claiming that it had already been established that Nick was Nick’s real father.

Fred, the Commander of Gilead, was instrumental in enacting the misogynistic and patriarchal laws that forced June to become a Handmaid. June suffered emotional, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of the Commander, and would be crushed if it was found that Fred was her father. The handmaids were forced to procreate for the Commander and his wife in order to boost their birth rate.
June Waterford (Yvonne Strahovskipper) became pregnant after she enlisted the help of his driver, Nick, and covertly prepared for them to have intercourse. Serena Joy Waterford realized June wasn’t conceiving after a while, so she thought Fred was as well. Nick and June had already been having an unlawful fling, which they would have been killed for being detected.
In season four of The Handmaid’s Tale, June (O.T. Bankole) gave birth to her baby Nichole while in hiding after attempting to flee Gilead and safeguard her unborn child.
Fans hope the couple will raise Nichole together, but they may have to wait a long time for an answer. In season four, June also became a free woman, allowing her to rejoin with her friends and husband Luke (Otte Bankole).
