Is Nick going to die saving Hannah?

Fans pieced together the notion that Nick dies saving Hannah based on a teaser for the second half of season 4 posted on The Handmaid’s Tale’s Twitter account, according to Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Following the splicing of scenes, it was speculated that Nick died in front of June after handing Hannah over to her and Luke.

Of course, trailers may be purposefully deceptive, and in this case, events that have transpired after the trailer’s publication have provided context for those sequences.

Serena is in a perilous position heading into the finale, and having Fred as her lone supporter doesn’t help matters. It’s also unclear whether her legal concerns have been settled. Fred presumably bargained for his wife’s freedom when he made his deal with Trello, but this hasn’t been proven.

Showrunner Bruce Miller had this to say about Serena during an April interview with Variety, “She clearly doesn’t deserve to be happy, but maybe there’s a world where she deserves to have a child and have it be taken away from her.”

Nick took a wedding band from his pocket and slid it on his finger after their poignant embrace. It’s understandable that Nick, who is now a Commander, would want to marry in order to protect Gilead’s conventional family ideals.

Fans who have been pulling for Nick and June’s romance have expressed their discontent with Nick’s new relationship status and, perhaps more crucially, the name of his wife on Twitter. Is she a returning cast member or a completely new character? Fans are unlikely to see her until season 5, if at all.
