Halo Infinite Won’t Have Assassinations At Launch

Published by

Halo Infinite Updates: Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries confirmed that the game will not contain the feature Assassinations at launch, but they have promised to bring it over in the future.

During the latest stream, before the Halo Infinite Technical Preview, lead developer Tom French confirmed that the game will not have the Assassinations feature at launch. Assassinations have been a part of Halo since Halo: Reach.

The feature allows the Spartans to sneak up on their opponent and stab them in the back. While it is very popular among players, there is also an option to switch them off and turn it back to a more traditional back whack by clicking the melee button.

The Halo series will see a lot of changes with the release of Halo Infinite this year. The most notable aspect of Halo Infinite is that the multiplayer game is free to play, a first in the Halo series. Halo 5: Guardians is also set to have an update after the release of Halo Infinite. It is said that Infinite’s multiplayer suite will set it in competition with true live services like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Halo Infinite Assassinations

During a recent Livestream on YouTube, Tom French showed some of the first in-game footage of Halo Infinite. After the footage was shown, French and community manager Brian “Ske7ch” Jarrard brought up the topic of Assassinations in the game and why they were left out of it.

French explained the matter by telling a story from an eSports event. French shared that many players in different levels play with the Assassinations feature because of the animation duration. The melee kill feature is quicker compared to the assassinations feature and therefore, players at higher levels use that to remain dominant for an extra few seconds. The team at 343 would re-examine the feature to see how it would fit the game without becoming a nuisance for players at higher levels.

This is not new for the Halo series to cut out features from the franchise. It has been done before with deployable equipment, various weapon types, and even with whole game modes. It is unlikely that Halo 5’s Warzone will be in Infinite either. The footage also lacked mention of many of the Forerunner weapons which were present in past games of 343 Industries.

While much from the previous games has been kept out, the game is sure to have some new and exciting features too. Like Halo 5 had evolved over the years with added features and weapons, Halo Infinite is sure to follow in its footsteps. Assassinations might be absent from the launch but the developers’ promise to work on the feature gives hope that the feature will return in the future, allowing Spartans to stab each other in the back.
