Sweet Tooth: What to Know About the DC Comic Before the Netflix Series

Sweet Tooth Updates: Netflix is finally adapting the much-loved comic Sweet Tooth to television. Written by Jeff Lemire, the widely acclaimed series was first launched in September 2009 and ran for forty issues before coming to an end in January 2013.

New Zealand granted permission to film the series in July 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent government regulations, the production was postponed and only resumed later in October last year.

Expected to release much earlier, the show is now scheduled for a premiere on the 4th of June, 2021.

The series will see various stars on the screen including Christian Convery as Gus, Nonso Anozie as Tommy Jepperd, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Aditya Singh, Will Forte as Gus’ father, Dania Ramirez as Aimee, Neil Sandilands as General Steven Abbot, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh, and Mia Artemis as Tiger, among others.

DC Entertainment, Team Downey ad Warner Bros. Television are the production companies behind the series, along with producer Evan Moore. The show is executive produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Jim Mickle, Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran.

All About Sweet Tooth

The Vertigo Comics series is set in a post-apocalypse world where “The Great Crumble” led to the new babies being born part human, part animal. Unsure if these babies were the result or cause of the virus, they are feared hunted down by many humans.

The comics follow one such boy, ten-year-old Gus, a sheltered deer boy who has lived all of his life in a secluded forest. He unexpectedly befriends a loner named Jepperd and the two set out to find the meaning and purpose of their lives.

While it is not yet known how much of the actual storyline will be followed by its TV adaptation, the trailer does how various characters from the comics coming to life. All we can do until it releases is hope that the series doesn’t disappoint us!
