The Resident Season 5: What Peter Elkoff said:

Sharing with TVLine, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff indicated that the plot will be a big one. He also added that, due to the delays in the production, Season 4 had to be shortened.

Adding on to this fact, he also said that the season will go back to its original count of episodes. Like Logan Kim from Red Rock and Dr. Bell in the early seasons, Chastin is awaiting another surprise next season, explained Elkoff.

Season 4 was itself very hard for the fans to digest. Cain and Billie performed a successful surgery on AJ’s mother, Conrad and Nic officially becoming parents, and to top everything off, Devon and Leela got pretty close. Teasing towards a change in Season 5, the co-showrunner didn’t specify anything related to what will happen in particular.

It was looking like season 5 was planned for a while now, even though the renewal was announced just on Monday. Streaming of season 5, unlike its previously aired season, is set to premiere in the fall on Fox, at its normal schedule, pre-COVID.

There is a question of who exactly Conrad, Nic, Devon, and everyone else will go up against this time. We will have to see how the Big Pharma plot will affect Chastin. Hulu will be streaming all four seasons of The Resident.
