Awake Starring Gina Rodriguez Release Date, Cast, Trailer, and More

Published by

Awake Updates: Awake is a film that will be available on Netflix later this year. It has a fantastic utopian plot that will leave you wondering, and you certainly don’t want to miss it. It is about a planet where no one will fall asleep, has released a preview, and it’s anything but a yawn.

When a disaster knocks out all of the technology on the planet and causes mass insomnia, the family members must fend for themselves.

The Netflix original series Awake will air on June 9, 2021, and fans are already looking forward to it.

Awake is the tale of a world of turmoil and uncertainty as it loses one of the most basic human abilities, sleep. A mother should strive to keep her family alive and her daughter is the only one with this vital skill. Will she be able to fend off a deranged culture or will she succumb to the chaos when the world and herself plunge into hysteria?

A depressed ex-soldier struggles to rescue her home after a worldwide event wipes out humanity’s ability to sleep, as civilization and her mind spiral into anarchy.

Awake casts some well-known faces of the industry like Finn Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Frances Fisher, Shamier Anderson, Ariana Greenblatt, and  Gina Rodriguez.

Gina Rodriguez plays Jill, a war veteran coping with addiction and trying to hold her children. Lucious Hoyos and Ariana Greenblatt play their twins, Noah and Matilda, respectively.

Greenblatt played young Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War and Daphne on Disney’s Stuck In The Center. Hoyos also appeared in Heroes Reborn and will feature in the forthcoming Once Upon A Time in Staten Island. The cast also includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Frances Fisher, and Shamier Anderson.

Awake: What does the Trailer Reveal?

Jill and Noah spend a restless night in the trailer, watching stars in the sky that turn out to be satellites falling from the sky. The very next day, they discover that every electronic system in the world has crashed, and anarchy ensues. To add to the panic, whatever has triggered this technological disaster has also resulted in humanity’s inability to sleep.

The symptoms of insomnia worsen over time: confusion, delusions, and paranoia. However, Matilda, the only female on the planet who can still get a solid 8 hours of sleep, may be the key to humanity’s existence. Will Jill put Matilda on the line for the sake of her fellow man? To be sure, it’s a waking nightmare.
