Does Outriders Have Cross-Play?

Outriders Updates: Outriders are now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, after a strong demo launch. While the fact that Outriders is available on so many sites is fantastic for encouraging as many people as possible to play the game, it can be a hassle for those who want to play with their mates online. Fortunately, Outriders’ co-op mode seems to escape this issue.

Square Enix’s latest looter shooter Outriders tracks a human colony that gets trapped in the hostile universe, Enoch. The game can be played solo, but it also supports up to a three-person co-op.

In February 2021, Outriders unveiled a preview, luring players in with the prospect of several hours of gameplay and the promise that all success will be carried through to the final game. With over 2 million downloads in the first week, the Outriders demo was a huge hit. Outriders, as per Square Enix, completely support cross-play.

Players should expect to play “with your mates irrespective of what console they own,” unlike other games that restrict cross-play between some systems.

Outriders’ co-op is also drop-in, drop-out, which means that any player can enter another’s session at any time, at any stage in the plot, without having to think about their progress aligning.

Outriders, on the other hand, seem to pledge hundreds of hours of material until co-op is up and running. The main game will take 25-30 hours to complete, but Square Enix predicts that a complete playthrough of Outriders will take “2-3 times that long if you perform all of the side missions, post-campaign, and extra material.”

That’s only from a single playthrough. Outriders provide each player with six character slots, allowing them to choose at least one of each of the four classes.

This is particularly important because a character’s class cannot be changed until chosen, but if a player thinks the Devastator class isn’t for them, they can put their advancement on hold for the time being and make a new character with a different build.

Much better, players who switch between characters and classes often will exchange items between them, eliminating the risk of a valuable loot drop being spent on the incorrect character.

The Game claim to be doing everything possible to make the trip as pleasant as possible. Apart from cross-play and other co-op features, the game is also free to upgrade from older consoles, enabling players who haven’t yet had their hands on a PS5 to start playing on a PS4 without having to pay twice.

The Game is also available on Xbox Game Pass at the sale, eliminating the financial barrier for certain fans. Though there are some potential early hiccups with the game’s launch, this co-op shooter might have a promising future ahead of it.
