Magic: The Gathering Comic ‘Hidden Planeswalker’ Debuts Stunning New Art

Magic: The Gathering Updates: With a beautiful collection of alternative covers showcasing some of the game’s most iconic characters, BOOM! Studios is introducing Magic: The Gathering to the era of comic books. The most recent plot portrays the ghost killer Kaya, who will play a significant part in the new show.

A Tinge Of The Plot

Following fan-favorite planeswalkers Vraska, Ral Zarek, and the previously listed Kaya, MAGIC #1 from writer Jed MacKay and artist Ig Guara will pick up story arcs from the hit card game’s narrative.

This trio rose to fame after the latest narratives saw them becoming guild masters on the plane of Ravnica, despite being limited to smaller roles at first.

The storyline of this latest comic begins with an attempted assassination on the group, which also places the life of the game’s most well-known character, Jace Beleren, in peril.

The effort to destabilize Ravnica’s plane sends the trio of the planeswalkers on a quest to the exotic Zendikar and through the multiverse, where they’ll meet one of the game’s wildest characters, according to BOOM!

Magic: The Gathering: Debut

Screen Rant

Surprisingly, it’s unclear who BOOM! is making a reference to, the words to it suggest the character may be drawn from Magic’s decades of continuity.

Although fans will have to wait a while to figure out who it is, the newly published Secret Planeswalker version covers indicate the presence of Liliana Vess, a formidable necromancer, and Sorin Markov, a vampire lord. Kaya now has her own alternate cover, following the other two black mana planeswalkers.

Kaya is relaxing after slaying an army of Dreadhorde forces from the game’s War of the Spark extension, as this cover by Taj Tenfold portrays. Kaya has recently risen to popularity in the series, having featured in three happenings namely – War of the Spark expansion, its sequel novel Forsaken, and MTG’s most recent expansion, the Norse-infused Kaldheim. Since it’s been declared non-canon, viewers shouldn’t anticipate any of those stories to have an influence on this one.

Regardless of continuity, the three planeswalkers featured in the series of alternate covers are all perfectly captured. Oddly, all of the planeswalkers on these covers use black mana.

About the fact that Kaya is a key character in the comic series, the plot synopsis published so far makes no mention of Liliana or Sorin.

It’s likely that the planeswalkers from one of Magic’s five colors will be depicted on the variant covers of each issue. If BOOM! Studios do go in that direction, fans can only hope that future Magic: The Gathering variant covers are as stunning as these.
