Steve Mackey was the bass guitarist for the British pop band Pulp.

He died at the age of 56 on Mar 2, Thursday.

The artist's wife confirmed the news of his demise on her IG post.

She said, "After three months in the hospital, fighting with all his strength and determination."

She further said, "we are shocked and devastated to have said goodbye to my brilliant husband."

Steve Mackey enjoyed acclaim with Pulp through their seven studio albums.

Mackey was born in Sheffield in 1966.

He joined the band in 1989 and first appeared on their third album.

He announced last october that he would not be playing in a series of reunion concerts.

No further details were released about the cause of his death.
