Stampede Ventures has announced that Space Cadet, a fresh romantic comedy film starring Emma Roberts, has been greenlit.

Emma Roberts has been cast as the lead actress and executive producer for the film.

Liz W. Garcia (The Lifeguard) will direct the film, which is based on her own screenplay.

Stampede Ventures' Greg Silverman and Jon Berg will produce, with Gideon Yu and Chris Bosco serving as executive producers.

Garcia's upcoming film follows Rex, a Florida party girl who finds herself as NASA's last chance after fumbling her way into training for the space programme.

Despite the fact that she is surrounded by cadets who are technically more qualified than her, she will push forward with her "smarts, heart, and moxie."

Garcia will executive produce the film alongside feature star  Gideon Yu and Chris Bosco, as well as Michael Tadross, in addition to writing and directing it.

"Emma is playing a character with incredible wit and comedic timing that perfectly embodies the role of REX," says Jon Berg.
