Why Should you watch the Mini-Series?

We gladly find resonances with Broadchurch or True Detective. Yet this mini-series trembles all of those elements into something else. Deeper. In the small town of Easttown, Mare stumbles on an investigation that does not find a resolution. The disappearance of a teenage girl who goes back a year and who traumatized the city.

The mother of the disappeared continues to move heaven and earth to find her daughter with televised statements and denunciations of the ineffectiveness of the police. Hard to swallow for the one who turned the whole region to find the young girl. On the privacy side? A total rout. Divorced, Mare lives opposite her ex-husband who has rebuilt his life. She has lost a son who leaves behind a 4-year-old boy. And she is raising alone, with her mother Helen, her teenage daughter, and her grandson. A picture is not very encouraging for this woman heavily tested by life.

FOR THE NATURALISTIC DRAMA

Filmed in the real town of Easttown, Pennsylvania, with its low skies and brooding clouds, Brad Ingelsby’s miniseries don’t try to play on any stylistic effects. She takes the side of an almost total counting. Starting with Kate Winslet, filmed naturally, wearing jeans, hiking shoes, and shapeless sweatshirts.

And a local accent larger than life. Despite appearances, all is not gray in this series. At the most unexpected moments, a ferocious joke arises here, there a burst of laughter. Although he does not spare them, Brad Ingelsby refuses to lock his characters in the gloom. A survival instinct always springs up somewhere where you don’t expect it. At every moment, he brings forth raw humanity in the midst of a cleverly woven tangle of an investigation that touches everyone.

It is also the story of a community that almost lives in isolation. In Easttown, there isn’t a soul that Mare hasn’t known since she was a child. Anonymity does not exist in these corners where people spend their entire lives. It is this set of portraits sketched with unheard-of acuity that takes over the criminal case. Mare of Easttown presents a gallery of ordinary but no less exciting people to discover. Starting with Mare, herself, a complex woman, difficult to understand but fascinating from all points of view for her strength of character and strength of soul.
