The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is famous for its superhero stories, but it has struggled with creating compelling villains for over a decade. Despite this, it has introduced various villains who earned the audience hate for their evil or controversial plans.
The MCU, the biggest connected universe in the superhero genre, includes TV shows linked to movies and introduces a range of characters—heroes, allies, and villains, whether human, alien, or mutant. While the MCU excels in creating compelling heroes, its villains haven’t received the same praise.
The first MCU villain was Obadiah Stane in Iron Man, and although he wasn’t the most memorable, he set a formula that the MCU hasn’t overcome, leading to its “villain problem.”
Despite some villains having less impactful stories, they garnered viewer hate for their evil actions and impact on the heroes in the universe. Here are 10 of the most disliked Marvel Cinematic Universe villains to date.
Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, was the big villain in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame. He planned to balance the universe by wiping out half of all life using the Infinity Stones.
Thanos didn’t mind destroying planets or lives to get these stones. Although he succeeded temporarily in “Infinity War,” he was eventually defeated in “Endgame.”
Quentin Beck, also known as Mysterio and played by Jake Gyllenhaal, was introduced in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” He was a former Stark Industries employee who felt betrayed by Tony Stark.
Using advanced technology, he posed as a hero to get revenge on Stark and frame Spider-Man. Despite being defeated, he caused chaos by revealing Spider-Man’s secret identity.
Gravik, portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir, appeared in the Disney+ series “Secret Invasion.” He was a Skrull leader who sought revenge on Nick Fury for failing to find the Skrulls a new home.
Gravik orchestrated covert attacks to start a nuclear war and take Earth for the Skrulls. He used Avengers’ DNA to enhance himself and create an army of Super-Skrulls.
Introduced in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” the High Evolutionary, played by ChukwudiIwuji, aimed to create a perfect society by experimenting on creatures. His experiments caused suffering and mutations, like Rocket Raccoon’s. He showed no remorse for his actions.
