Survival of the Thickest is an adaptation of Buteau’s collection of writings of the same name, focusing on Black, plus-sized Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), who returns to the dating scene after discovering her boyfriend amid an affair. Crushed by the news, she moves to Brooklyn and tries to restart her career as a striving stylist with the help of her dedicated friends and family.
