Netflix recently released an official trailer for Song Joong-ki’s next Korean feature movie, My Name is Loh Kiwan.

The upcoming Netflix film, the exact adaptation of Jo Hae-jin’s novel I Met Loh Kiwan, is centered on the romantic relationship between Marie, a South Korean resident who believes she has no meaning or calling in life, and the male protagonist. This North Korean defector travels to Belgium for protection.

The teaser revolves around Loh Kiwan’s alone arrival in Belgium, chronicling his anxious moments at immigration.

Despite entering the country, the harsh truth comes in: loneliness, cold, and hunger are typical companions. The story builds as Loh Kiwan works to confirm his refugee status, interwoven with flashbacks of his time in North Korea.

His journey to a faraway nation that barely speaks his language exposes him to new dangers and bitterness. Loh Kiwan runs away, sleeps in a tunnel, and struggles to make ends meet in Belgium.

Despite finding himself lying on the floor of a filthy public bathroom, having consumed something that has made him unwell, he remains steadfast in his determination to live and thrive in Belgium. Though this country is not his home, he knows that it is far superior to his native North Korea.
