This entire documentary revolves around the protagonist, Maya. She is a nine-year-old girl and was admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in the year 2016. The hospital in which she was admitted was trying to treat her hair and a very different illness but during that course, they began to question the basic truths that bound the Maya together.
And suddenly one day Maya was under state custody. Even though her parents were desperate to bring their daughter home. This unique family of Maya was put into words by themselves only. And I am sure that it will change the way you look at children’s healthcare forever.
Jack and Beata parents of Maya found themselves at the mercy of a flawed child welfare system and ultimately embroiled in a David and Goliath legal battle with devastating consequences.
Combining intimate access to a deeply personal story with elements of investigative journalism, this impactful film examines the lingering trauma left behind when families are torn apart.
