The Mr and Mrs Smith trailer from Prime Video shows off a captivating spinoff series with a twist.
If you enjoyed the original 2005 film starring Brad Pitt (Bullet Train) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), you’d be pleased to know that all the significant aspects have been maintained.
The series is fearless in deviating from its original idea. This time, the Smiths aren’t secretive spouses. They begin as two miserable strangers who respond to an ad promising a fascinating life – and to enjoy that life, they must change their names to Mr John and Mrs Jane Smith.
They must not only manage the hazards of high-stakes espionage but also the perils of marriage.
The teaser set the tone by showing the upscale spy ambiance, the missions that take the pair worldwide, their constant banter and arguing, and their weekly therapy sessions.
If the first teaser trailer’s purpose was to reference the original film, Prime Video succeeded brilliantly.

The teaser hints that the duo’s biggest challenge will be reconciling their secret identity and fake marriage and deciding how much they can share.
The trailer then flips between fight sequences (including views of actors John Turturro & Donald Glover with bloodied faces) and moments in which the leads attempt to fake a romantic relationship.
So far, the first glance at Mr. and Mrs. Smith in the clip suggests these two will provide an eccentric vibe that can bring humor to the action plot.
In the trailer, Erskine’s trademark awkwardness shines through, such as when she needs to explain to a friend that she and Glover’s characters are “software engineers.”
For now, all we know about the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series is that it will be based on the same idea as the film, with the main couple pretending to be happily married so that their neighbors and no one else think they’re on a mission. We are still determining if the first season will have multiple missions or one overarching narrative that will span all episodes.

Donald Glover & Maya Erskine star as John and Jane Smith, respectively. The cast includes some brilliant stars like Paul Dano (The Fabelmans), Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You), and John Turturro (The Big Lebowski).
Their roles are currently in the curtain. Parker Posey (Beau Is Afraid) & Wagner Moura (Narcos) joined the cast in supporting roles for the series.
Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies), Eiza González (Baby Driver), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story), Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) would also be joining the cast in guest appearances.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith will tell the story of the secret couple over a series of episodes. The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith will air on Friday, February 2.
