The Trailer for Boy Swallows Universe Teases Netflix’s Coming-of-Age Series. When you think of the shows that have recently arrived on Netflix, you think of reality dating shows, teen rom-coms, or some franchise genre offering.

Unless it’s a soap opera, only a few shows fill that type of family drama role. That is what makes “Boy Swallows Universe” so intriguing.

Netflix has released a full-length trailer for their upcoming coming-of-age crime adaptation. The latest trailer provides a greater sense of the story’s direction while confirming the series’ January premiere date.

The trailer of Boy Swallows Univers starts with protagonist Eli Bell (Felix Cameron) visiting a newspaper office, saying he has a story to share. “It’s a crime story,” he says to the receptionist before going into a trailer that shows both the series’ humor and heartbreak.

We see a few prominent events from the book, like the kidnapping of Eli’s father-in-law, Lyle Orlick, and Eli’s attempted break-in at Boggo Road Gaol.

Meanwhile, the latest Boy Swallows Universe trailer barely hints at the components of magical realism that contribute significantly to the original material.

“Boy Swallows Universe,” an eight-episode limited series, tells the story of a young child with a traumatic life. His mother is a drug addict. His father is no longer in the picture. His brother is mute.

To make matters worse, his stepfather is a drug dealer who is often in trouble. But when the little kid has stepped up to save his family and become a bit of a good person, he begins on an extraordinary journey.

No, there aren’t any demons from another world. There are no such things as superheroes. This is an authentic coming-of-age drama.
