Shakira a widely known Colombian singer, composer, and songwriter has been involved in a tax fraud case since 2018 as the Spanish authorities stated. The case has been radiated even more because of the singer’s popularity and worldwide fame also looks like she got entangled this time with intense issues.
What Are the Allegations Shakira Facing?
Back in the year 2018, Spanish authorities blamed Shakira for not paying over 15 million Euros estimated around 16 million dollars to income tax from year 2012 to 2014.
The blame on Shakira is that she used unfair means to hide her annual income from income tax to avoid paying the asked taxes in Spain.
As per in Spain, according to the Spanish government one has to pay taxes in Spain after living there for six months or more.
Shakira who was living with her boyfriend Gerard Piqué, widely known as a footballer, who has played for Barcelona since back in 2011 was actually deemed to pay taxes according to Spanish laws.

What Shakira Says In Her Defense?
Shakira has already denied the accusations of tax fraudulent on her, in her defense Shakira’s defense said she was not even living in Spain at that point in time which she was accused of, she even said that she spent most of her time doing her shows globally how this possible for her to live in Spain only, she hasn’t even built a permanent home there.
In the singer’s defense, her defense also said that she had even paid all her taxes, and cleared her dues whatever she had in this country. The defense highlighted the fact that Shakira had paid around 20 million Euros which is around 22 million dollars to the lawsuit before the case was even filed.
Despite all the defenses Shakira was held guilty back in the year 2021, July and the court held her in prison with a punishment of eight years and two months prison.
Back in year 2022 Spanish authorities opted for trials after their plea deal with Shakira which she reached a settlement this year to avoid any further trial. She owed to pay 20 million Euros as a fine to the authorities and on which she agreed to three-year prison punishment if she got caught in this kind of situation again.
