Netflix has announced a magical animated series and we’re all in for Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld!
Ali Wong in collaboration with Echo Wu and Aaron Eli Coleite, has lined up her next big thing with Netflix and it’s taking her back to the world of animation!
Netflix has announced that the Always Be My Maybe star, Ali Wong will be leading the voice cast of Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld – which is specifically a supernatural action series. First-time showrunner Echo Wu is the ‘man behind the curtains’.
The series follows the story of a Chinese-American teenager living in a small town in Texas who learns about a demon king who seems to be after her thanks to the supernatural powers she’s been gifted and trying to hide her entire life.
Having to manage her teenage and high-school horrors on hand, and also struggling to fight the entire underworld’s worth of monsters is no easy task for a regular teenage girl!
Thankfully, with the assistance and support from her weapons expert great-aunt (and a millennia-old!) Jiangshi – also known as a Chinese hopping vampire-, Jentry is able to fight monsters and high-school!

Jentry will be played by Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe), who also is the executive producer of the series and has also starred in Netflix’s Beef.
She will star alongside Bowen Yan, Lori Tan Chinn, Lucy Liu, Jimmy O. Yang, Sheng Wang, and Woosung Kim.
One of the features that first strikes viewers is the eclectic Asian cast. They are a mixture of Asian excellence dipped with comedic brilliance and judging by the description of the series, we can expect it to be the perfect combination of supernatural action, magical mayhem, and comic relief all put together with the support of this ensemble Asian cast.
With the comedy, power dipped in gold with top-notch animation in addition to the supernatural and horror chops from the cast, producers, and of course the studio – this series is certainly shaping up to be an exciting and spooky series that cannot be missed!
With that being said, this is all the intel we have so far on the series. We both know that there’s an amazing cast, the series is filled with beautiful Chinese cultural influence, a spooky theme, comic relief – and top-notch animation.
This cooks up a storm of top-tier talent mixed with experience and skill. However, the only downside about this series is that the rating is TV-PG – meaning, it’s targeting a younger audience.
But that’s not going to stop adults like us from enjoying a good animated series! (We know you secretly love watching anime despite being a full-fledged adult. Shhh, it’s our secret!)
