Stranger Things is undeniably a global hit at this point. Since 2016, fans have been excitedly anticipating the release of each new season of The Duffer Brothers’ fascinating horror and ’80s nostalgia-fest.

Unfortunately, Stranger Things Season 5 will be the final season of the Netflix drama, with Vecna returning to bring down the much-loved main characters. So, here’s all you need to know about season 5, including the release date, returning characters, and more.

Is There a Release Date for the Stranger Things Season 5?

No, the premiere date for Stranger Things Season 5 has yet to be announced. Stranger Things Season 5 might be back on track shortly, now that the WGA strikes have finished and SAG-AFTRA is in talks to find solutions. Season 5’s release date seems doubtful; however, it is expected to air in 2025 if filming begins in 2024.

According to several behind-the-scenes Season 5 tweets, the final season will have eight episodes.

However, it is still being determined how long each episode will last. Season 5 may follow in the footsteps of the previous season, with a movie-length finale episode or, better yet, multiple episodes over two hours.

The Cast and Characters Returning In Season 5?

So far, most of the center characters will return for Season 5. This includes the following:

While it’s probable that Sadie Sink will return as Max, given that she was in a coma by the conclusion of Season 4, it’s uncertain how she’ll appear. Fan favorite Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joe Quinn, stays dead and will not return for Season 5.

Season 5 will feature an 80s star, Linda Hamilton, AKA Sarah Conner of the Terminator franchise, as a new addition to the group. Her current role is still being determined.

What Can We Expect From the Stranger Things Season 5?

With the release of Season 4, we now have a better notion of what to expect in Season 5.

Viewers know Vecna’s past, origins, and link to Eleven. Season 5 will undoubtedly continue that plot, given that we know he’s still lurking over Hawkins, thanks to Will’s senses. And There’s the minor problem of the Upside Down now entering Hawkins.

The Duffer brothers indicated in 2022 that the mysteries of the Upside Down will be the major focus of season 5 – including the importance of the Upside Down being trapped on the day Will went missing back in 1983.

Because this is the last season, the Duffers agreed that the show would take its time wrapping up character storylines. Season 5 will likewise take place in Hawkins, imitating the atmosphere of Season 1 but on a much larger scale. 

Season 5 will likely explore Max’s fate after Vecna killed him in the season 4 finale, although she recovered and is presently in a coma (albeit confirmed braindead & blind).

Eleven appeared to have brought her back to life using her good memories, but the season concluded before that was explained. The Duffer brothers have confirmed that Max’s coma will be “incredibly significant” to the season 5 narrative.
