An unexpected decision that led to the official announcement of the HBO MAX series Dead Boy Detectives to be released by Netflix has left fans and viewers in anticipation of the upcoming series.
Dead Boy Detectives is produced by Greg Berlanti, although his previous series ‘YOU’ didn’t perform that well on its original network which had to be acquired by Netflix.
Where this new series is concerned, this comes at a strange time for Warner Bros. Discovery (parent company of DC Comics) which is trying to cut costs whilst keeping its streaming service competitive.
Here is an official description of the comics:
Dead Boy Detectives is a fresh take on a ghost story that talks about loss, grief, and of course death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, who by the way aren’t even alive.
Since their deaths, both ‘ghost detectives’ have solved several mysteries that have hit the hallowed halls of St. Hilarion’s School – except their own. They haven’t been able to crack the mystery of their own deaths.
In this grappling new series filled with secrets and surprises, Edwin and Charles start unraveling the mystery of their untimely demise -with the help of an alive girl, Crystal Palace who has a prowess towards technology and a strange connection with the undead.
Together, the unlikely trio group of gumshoes will embark on an interesting journey from the bustling streets of new-age London to the virtual world of Japanese-influenced videogames, to dangers lurking in the darkness.
It’s a lot like a vintage detective series – but darker and on acid.

Although Netflix hasn’t announced the official release date, a production schedule is mentioned that is expected to conclude in Spring.
A late release in 2023 might seem possible, but 2024 is probably more realistic to expect.
