The Chilean satirical horror film, ‘El Cone’ is a rather absurd film at first glance. It follows the premise of a vampirical dictator living past his glory years.

The film follows the story of Augusto Pinochet, a French vampire who in his life, fought Louis XVI, thus earning a dislike for revolutions. Many years later, he finds himself ruling Chile as a despicable Dictator.

However, in the current scenario, Pinochet is living a fake life – news of his ‘death’ has spread across the country and he is all alone except for his wife, Lucia, and a loyal butler, Fyoor serving him.

As a result of his ‘death’, Pinochet’s greedy children come to town in hopes of gaining momentum of his riches – with an enigmatic accountant in tow.  This in turn leads to eccentric but comedic social commentaries.

The film is another glorious addition to a brand of cinematography by Pablo Larrain, where he explores the influence and tyranny of Pinochet’s destructive rule and the negative implications on the general Chilean culture.

Will There Be An El Conde 2?

The movie premiered theatrically on September 7th before being available worldwide on 15th on Netflix.

The film received increasingly positive reviews with exceptional praise for the film’s visuals and unconventional premise.

Although ‘El Conde’s satirical horror elements have raised the bar and set it apart from filmmaker Pablo Larrain’s previous work – the fact that it films within the political commentary genre is enough to say that there possibly won’t be a sequel.

Ultimately fans should not be anticipating a sequel unless the filmmaker or his collaborator, Guillermo Calderon confirm otherwise.
