In Episode 8 titled ‘Sitzprobe’ of ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ we learn more about Loretta Durkin’s past. She once dreamt of becoming an actress but had to give up her baby for adoption when she got pregnant during a romance with her director.

Her child, now known as Robert “Dickie” Glenroy, was raised by the Glenroys. Loretta secretly orchestrated a plan to get a role in a play directed by Oliver Putnam to reconnect with her son. During a rehearsal, she intends to reveal the truth to Dickie.

Meanwhile, Mabel continues her investigation into Ben’s murder, causing tension with Oliver. The rehearsals are disrupted when Gregg, the man arrested for Ben’s murder, is released, and the real killer is still at large. Oliver decides to let Mabel complete her investigation to ensure his play’s success.

Mabel suspects Dickie of killing his brother and works with Charles and Oliver. They discover a shredder in Ben’s dressing room and try to piece together shredded documents for clues.

Detective Williams interrogates the cast and crew, but Oliver sets up a hidden camera. Eventually, they reconcile, and the police prepare to make an arrest.

At the end of the episode, Mabel is happy that Charles and Oliver helped her get recordings of the interrogations. They all make amends, and Mabel asks Charles and Oliver to return to the podcast.

Meanwhile, Dickie reveals to Loretta that he had a fight with his brother Ben on opening night, but he hoped to reconcile later.

Loretta performs on stage, but the police come to arrest Dickie. While searching Loretta’s bag, Charles and Mabel find a letter revealing Dickie’s true parentage.

Loretta confesses to killing Ben, saying she poisoned him on opening night and pushed him down an elevator shaft when he survived. But it seems like she might be lying to protect her son.

So, the real killer is still on the loose. After Loretta’s arrest, Oliver, who has been under a lot of stress, collapses in the theater, possibly from another heart attack.

His play’s success has been his main motivation, but with all the chaos, it seems unlikely it will make it to opening night. Despite the stress, it’s unlikely Oliver will die.
