What is the Plot?

The show is based on Mark Millar and Peter Gross’s graphic novel series American Jesus, in which Jodie, a 12-year-old kid from Baja California, realizes he possesses Jesus-like abilities: he can transform water into wine, heal the handicapped to walk, and maybe even bring back the dead!

While the town’s Evangelical and Yaqu officials try to persuade Jodie to use his skills to rescue humanity, all he intends to do is charm the girl he adores and fight against his bullies. As Jodie battles and ultimately accepts his fate, everything gets tossed for a ride when he thinks he has discovered the truth about his identity.
