Billie Eilish Debuts New Song From Barbie Soundtrack.

Published by

The new song by Billie Eilish that will be in the upcoming film Barbie has been made public. With the release of her new song, “What Was I Made For,” Billie Eilish has given fans a taste of what to expect from the next Barbie movie.

The song was released on Friday, accompanied by a music video in which Eilish delivers lyrics about considering the song’s title.

According to a press release, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, a regular collaborator, wrote “What Was I Made For?”, especially for Barbie at his home studio in Los Angeles. Eilish also took the reins of the song’s official music video.

Mark Ronson, who served as executive producer of the album, referred to Eilish as “one of the fucking greatest living artists around” and said she “also had a very personal, idiosyncratic tie to Barbie as well.

“The song is filled with philosophical lyrics that discuss the cybernetic trap of feminine beauty and, more specifically, the misery of a physical plastic doll. For example, “I was an ideal / Looked so alive, turns out, I’m not real / Just something you paid for.”

The doll-sized replicas of Billie’s red carpet outfits, such as the black and green Gucci ensemble she wore to the 2020 Grammys and the Chanel tweed set she wore to the 2023 Oscars, are shown in the film while she peruses a Barbie luggage while seated at a table.

According to the song’s official press release, Billie Eilish’s heartfelt addition to the Barbie soundtrack supports “pivotal scenes throughout the film.” Eilish discussed her songwriting approach and the movie’s impact on her and Finneas in a touching blog post on “What Was I Made For?”.

Eilish has talked extensively about how she battles with body image and feels objectified by the public, particularly in relation to her distinctively more conventionally male sense of style.

She also discussed her difficulties, saying that no one finds her attractive when she wears baggy clothing, and she feels utterly unlovable, uns*xy, and unattractive. People often humiliate her for not being feminine enough.

Additionally, she has criticized her followers for treating her like “different Barbies with different heads” after going blonde. Eilish’s public career and the subservient existence of a Barbie doll are explicitly compared in the “What Was I Made For?” music video released Thursday.

In the 1962 “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie film, Eilish is shown removing doll-sized replicas of her wardrobe from a trunk of doll apparel.
