My Happy Marriage, a new anime romance, takes on the unusual background of 19th-century Japan and, surprisingly, adds magical elements to it.
The strain of gender norms matching the old-fashioned aesthetics of this setting is clear from the trailers.
However, in a world where individuals can have psychic powers, those with that skill have an advantage over those who don’t.
Miyo, the main character, is a lady with no psychic talents who is harassed by her father, stepmother, and step-sister. Miyo, who has never understood happiness, spends most of her days in despair.
Miyo, who has a Cinderella-like life, mourns the loss of her mother, who her father’s new wife has taken over. Miyo is treated like a servant by her negligent father, cruel stepmother, and step-sister, who has psychic skills.
Her only relief from this daily misery is her sudden marriage to Kiyoka Kudou, a famously nasty military commander. As the trailer demonstrates, the captain is not what others have depicted him as. This tragic relationship is centered on a fantastic narrative of discovering one’s self-worth in a harsh environment.
The trailer hints at the possibility of an understanding between them and indicates that they may learn from each other in the most fantastic way possible.
Miyo and Kiyoka’s relationship looks low-key, with excellent character development backed by true love and caring. There are certain disturbances around their relationship, but there is optimism that they will find a way through together.
