So, if you are curious to know everything about the ending of Black Mirror Season 6 Episode 3 then keep reading this article till the end.
Two years have passed since David and Cliff embarked on their space mission. They communicate with their families through replicas that resemble them, accessing them via tags while in space.
David, living in the city, enjoys spending time with his talkative and easy-going nature. He watches movies with his wife and kids, paints their portraits, and dances with his wife.
On the other hand, Cliff moved his family to a remote area, leaving his wife feeling lonely due to the lack of socialization opportunities.
Cliff himself maintains distance from others, and his relationship with his wife, Lana, has become stagnant.
Tragedy strikes when a hippie cult, considering the replicas an abomination, breaks into David’s house.
They believe the replicas should be destroyed, and as David’s wife treated the replica as her husband, she becomes a target. The cult kills David’s wife and children while he helplessly watches through his own replica, which is also destroyed.
With no way to return to Earth and feeling lost, David finds solace when Cliff offers his own replica, enabling David to step into Cliff’s life.

When Cliff learns that David is responsible for killing his family, he is appalled. The initial act of kindness, allowing David to use his replica for healing, has turned into a nightmare. Returning to the spaceship, Cliff finds David waiting, symbolizing their shared understanding of tragedy.
However, their co-dependence and the complex division of responsibilities aboard the ship make the situation even more challenging.
While the story’s ending remains ambiguous, it is likely that Cliff will choose to kill David, as he has nothing left to live for and faces the risk of being arrested if he returns to Earth.
Thus, this grim reality leaves little hope for either of them, with the possibility of self-destruction looming over their futures.

After David’s wife and children are killed, he loses everything. His replica is destroyed, preventing him from returning to Earth and seeking solace with his remaining extended family.
David falls into depression, causing concern for his friend Cliff, who fears that David may take his own life. This distresses Cliff not only because of their friendship but also because their mission requires both of them for survival.
In a desperate attempt to help David, Cliff shares the situation with Lana, who suggests allowing David to use Cliff’s replica to spend time on Earth and find solace.
David accepts the offer, and positive changes are observed after his first visit. However, it becomes evident that David desires more. He offers to paint a portrait of Cliff’s house in exchange for regular visits.
Cliff, hoping to prevent David from unraveling and endangering them both, agrees to the arrangement.
During these visits, David notices the distance between Lana and Cliff and realizes their strained relationship. A bond develops between David and Lana, and for a moment, it seems an affair might ensue.
However, when David makes advances toward Lana and reacts violently to their son’s actions, she insists that Cliff not allow David back into their lives. Cliff, initially unaware of the situation, discovers David’s sketches of Lana and assumes they were based on real encounters.
Confronting David, he learns the truth, but his outrage blinds him to David’s fragile state. Meanwhile, on Earth, Cliff realizes the truth of his own emotional detachment from Lana and acknowledges David’s earlier observations.
Cliff and Lana work on repairing their relationship, but when David asks to use Cliff’s replica one last time to apologize to Lana, Cliff refuses and berates David. Unaware of David’s vulnerable state, Cliff’s words trigger a return to darkness for David.
Also, feeling mistreated and misunderstood, David concocts a plan to make Cliff comprehend his pain. He fabricates an emergency, sends Cliff away for repairs, and uses Cliff’s tag to access his replica.
Instead of seeking reconciliation, David commits a horrifying act by killing Lana and Henry. Horrified, Cliff discovers what David has done upon his return to the replica.
