Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom is a live-action adventure comedy film that will be released in France in 2023. It will be directed by Guillaume Canet, who will also star in the film Asterix. It is the fifth entry in the live-action Asterix movie series. 

The titular characters travel to Imperial China for the first time in the movie, which also stars Gilles Lellouche as Obelix. Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé penned the original script for the narrative, which was then adapted by Philippe Mechelen.

It is the first Asterix live-action movie that isn’t based on a comic book album and doesn’t star Gérard Depardieu as Obelix.

The movie has been given a budget of $72.4 million and is being co-produced by Pathé, Les Enfants Terribles, and Tresor Films, which is based in Paris.

The drama depicts Princess Fu Yi’s life as she flees from a rebellious prince named Deng Tsin Qin and makes her way to Gaul, where she asks for assistance from Asterix and Obelix. Princess Fu Yi is the only child of the Chinese Emperor Han Xuandi.
