The acclaimed period drama manga Ōoku: The Inner Chambers is getting an anime adaptation that will be accessible only on Netflix in 2023.

Oku: The Inner Chambers is a forthcoming Japanese Netflix Original historic animation series that is based on Fumi Yoshinaga’s manga series of the exact same name.

The animation company overseeing the project is the company Deen, which also created the last two seasons of The Seven Deadly Sins.

At the year’s Anime Japan festival in Tokyo, the streaming service also revealed “Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune,” an anime show based on Carlo Zen’s militaristic science-fiction novel, which is due to debut in May. Hakusensha / Melody released the original manga.

“Ooku,” directed by Abe Noriyuki and developed by Studio Deen, is based on stories told in the Ooku women’s rooms of Edo Castle and envisions the roles of gender being flipped.

When a pandemic affects the male population, women rise to positions of power. The newly appointed female, Shogun Yoshimune investigates whether women use male names while ascending to power and begins to solve other secrets inside the private sanctum.

Netflix has not given a confirmed release date for the anime, though we do know that it will be released somewhere in the third quarter of 2023. We will update you with the latest information the minute the confirmation arrives from Netflix.

What is the storyline of Ōoku: The Inner Chambers?

A weird new illness known as Redface Pox started to spread among the males of Edo-era Japan in the 1600s to 1860s.

After 80 years of the initial epidemic, the male population had shrunk to one-quarter of the overall female population. Women have picked all of the customary male duties, including that of the Shogun.

The males, who are the most valuable givers of life, are jealously guarded, and the most handsome of the men are assigned to perform duties in the Shogun’s Inner Chambers.
