The upcoming biographical drama miniseries ‘A Small Light’ is all set to arrive with its unforgettable historical events and some committed cast members to depict those.
The plot of this biographical drama follows the story of the brave and kind Hermine Gies or Miep who hides Otto Frank’s family including Anne Frank in an annex during World War II.
Miep was Otto’s secretary and was asked by him to shelter his family from the Nazis. Things were under control until her dentist also asked her about a hiding place.
When Is A Small Light Releasing?
The miniseries was first greenlit by Disney+ from National Geographic in February 2022. Susanna Fogel, Avi Nir, Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Alon Shtruzman, and Peter Traugott serve as executive producers for the series.
Bel Powley was cast in the lead role of Gies in April of 2022 with Liev Schreiber and Joe Cole also joining the cast.
Other cast members joined in June of that year. Production of the series began in July and filming took place in the summer between Prague, Hradec Králové, and Amsterdam.
National Geographic released the official trailer of the series on 4th April this year on YouTube. The miniseries is set to premiere on May 1, 2023.

Bel Powley-
English actress Bel Powley has been cast to portray the lead character Miep Gies in the series. Powley previously starred in a number of films and television series.
Her first big role in tv was in the action series ‘M.I. High’ in which she played Daisy Millar from 2007 to 2008. In the 2009 miniseries, she was cast as Bel Powley.
In the sixth season of the British sitcom ‘Benidorm’, she played the main character Bianca Dyke in 2014. In 2018 Powley starred in BBC’s six-part drama ‘Informer’ as DC Holly Morten.
From 2019 to 2021 she was a main cast member in the first season of the American drama tv series ‘The Morning Show’ playing Claire Conway. She also reprised this role as a guest cast member in season two.
Last year she played the main character Birdy in the British comedy-drama series ‘Everything I Know About Love’.
Other than ‘A Small Light’, Powley is also set to star in the upcoming war drama series ‘Masters of the Air’ in the role of Sandra Wingate.
Powley’s film credits include ‘The Diary of a Teenage Girl’, ‘A Royal Night Out’, ‘Equals’, ‘Detour’, ‘Carrie Pilby’, ‘Mary Shelley’, ‘Wildling’, ‘White Boy Rick’, ‘Ashes in the Snow’, ‘The King of Staten Island’ etc. She was nominated for BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2016 for her role in ‘The Diary of a Teenage Girl’.
Liev Schreiber-
Playing Otto Frank, we will see American actor Liev Schreiber in the series. He starred in a number of television series and films previously.
In 2003 he played Ernst Hanfstaengl in the Canadian miniseries ‘Hitler: The Rise of Evil’.
From 2013 to 2020 he portrayed the lead and titular role of Ray Donovan in the American crime drama series ‘Ray Donovan’ while also serving as writer, producer, and director.
Joe Cole-
As Miep’s husband Jan Gies, we will see English actor Joe Cole in the upcoming series. Cole is familiar as John Shelby in BBC’s famous period crime drama series ‘Peaky Blinders‘ in which he was cast as the main character from 2013 to 2017.
He was nominated for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Leading Actor for playing Frank in the anthology British tv series ‘Black Mirror’ in 2017.
In 2019 Cole played the main character of Charlie in Channel 4’s British tv series ‘Pure’. He was also cast as the main character Sean Wallace in the British tv series ‘Gangs of London in 2020.
Last year he played Harry Palmer in the British cold war spy thriller miniseries ‘The Ipcress File’.
Amira Casar-
As Otto Frank’s wife Anne Frank, British-born actress Amira Casar will be seen in the series. Casar previously starred as Béatrice, Madame de Clermont in the French historical fiction drama ‘Versailles’.
Billie Boullet-
Anne Frank is a familiar name to people, thanks to the unparalleled and heartbreaking ‘The Diary of a Young Girl which is one of the best-known books in the world.
Newcomer British actress Billie Boullet has been cast to portray the character. Previously she starred in the children’s fantasy drama series ‘The Worst Witch’ playing Fenella Feverfew.
Ashley Brooke-
To play Margot Frank, the elder sister of Anne, we will see Ashley Brooke. She previously appeared in single episodes of ‘The Blacklist’, ‘New Amsterdam’, ‘Bull’, ‘Bizaardvark’, and ‘The Other Two’. She also directed and starred in two shorts ‘Girls Trip’ and ‘Don’t Ask’.
