it was announced in February 2023 that the War Sailor, one of Norway’s biggest theatrical blockbusters last year, will be adapted into a limited series for Netflix. The new series will premiere on Netflix on April 5, 2023, and will showcase previously unseen material.

Alfred Garnes is a working-class seaman who has recently become a father to his third kid. As WWII breaks out, he alongside his close buddy Sigbjrn Kvalen is serving aboard a commercial ship in the Atlantic Ocean’s center.
They are defenseless citizens who are on the front lines of a conflict they did not seek to be a part of. The two men are fighting to survive in a spiral of murder and violence, where German submarines may strike their precious vessels at any time. The war sailors’ only purpose is to escape and return home.
However, Alfred’s spouse Cecilia is fighting the war all by herself in Bergen, raising 3 children on her own, and not sure if she would ever see Alfred again.
As British planes attempted to attack the German submarine base near Bergen, they mistakenly attacked the Laksevg primary school and residential dwellings in Nstet, killing hundreds of civilians. As Alfred and Wally in Canada hear the news, they worry whether they’ve got anything left at home to go to.
