Re/Member 2023 Movie Ending Explained: What Does the Post Credit Scene Mean?

Published by

A Japanese supernatural horror movie called “Re/Member” is currently available on Netflix. It seeks to shock audiences with various gory physical horror sequences while adding a strong sense of drama.

The movie follows high school girl Asuka and her five classmates as they are drawn into the paranormal and forced to participate in the horrifying game Person Search, in which they must locate the mutilated remains of a natural dead body.

Even if “Re/Member” occasionally falls short because of the prosthetic and visual appeal of the fright moments, it might be a good pick if viewed for extraordinarily light and casual enjoyment.

The conclusion of “Re/Member” could imply that while being consumed by the Red Person erases one’s memories, finishing the game and defeating the monster ultimately preserves one’s memory.

Asuka is, therefore, likely to recall everything, but she is afraid that others won’t believe her if she approaches them. This argument might be accurate given that only some participants would have published a book about the game if everyone had forgotten their experience.

Takahiro appears to be the only person consumed by the monster and still remembers the game. The only reason he can is because of unadulterated love. Takahiro remembers because of his love, which is how he comes upon Asuka.

It’s possible that he recalled everything and was lying to avoid being believed in class. But now that he discovers his pin with Asuka, he takes everything that happened to be true.

Another possibility is that everyone remembers what happened, but they all avoid discussing it with their peers and believe it to have been a dream. As a result, close friends gradually disappear and are replaced by classmates and strangers.

However, the fact that Atsushi returns to school once the Body Game ends suggests that he may have recalled what he learned from the experience.

What Is the “Re/Member” Post Credits Scene?

The Envoy Web

The well that Asuka had seen, or believed she had seen, many bloodied hands emerging from is also seen in a post-credits sequence. A ripped newspaper carrying the news of Miko Onoyama’s passing may be seen when the camera pans to the bottom of the well.

Then, blood gradually emerges on the newspaper, and Miko’s visage transforms into another girl her age, or an eight-year-old. Additionally, the name is changed to “Asuka Morisaki.”

Asuka Morisaki appears to have also passed away, and the devil appears to have located its next soul to seize and reincarnate as the Red Person.

The loop is set to happen again. Once more, a select group of individuals will be picked to search for Asuka’s severed body parts in 24 hours while being pursued by the new Red Person (the devil disguised as Asuka’s bloodied self).

We were, therefore, correct to assume that the loop occurred at intervals, but we were unaware that they were so brief. Body Search will now proceed once more. The remaining question is whether the murderer responsible for these killings, which prompted the corpse hunt, is the same person.

If so, is the killer associated with the devil in any way? Or is a corpse search a chance occurrence that targets random murders by random killers?

What’s strange is that this new youngster, Asuka Morisaki, is the Asuka who has been well-known to us throughout the movie. We are aware that she experienced visions and a semblance of a sixth sense.

This and Asuka scolded Takahiro as he informed the others about an incident at the theme park. It must be related to her visions and her name appearing in the newspaper at the bottom of the well and something that she knows about and doesn’t want anyone else to know that happened there.

She is already passed away and has been for some time. Thus the time loop may have been changed in some way. Thus, if we are correct, Asuka will soon become the next Red Person.

Although the post-credits sequence may leave viewers scratching their heads and formulating speculations, a forthcoming sequel will most likely explain Asuka’s history and, consequently, the time loop idea as shown in this movie.
