Jamaican born British-Australian director-producer Stephen Hopkins has directed the upcoming British-French tv series ‘Liaison’. The plot revolves around a contemporary thriller which unfolds into multilayered and unpredictable actions that navigate political and espionage intrigues affecting a passionate love story.
It follows how mistakes of the past can change and ruin the future. Although, the characters’ names are yet not revealed, the cast members have been declared already.
When Is Season One of ‘Liaison’ Releasing?
The series was first announced in June of 2021 by Apple TV+. It is the first Anglo-French production of the platform. Virginie Brac has written the script of the series with Gub Neal, Jean Benoit Gillig, Sarada McDermott, Ed Barlow, Justin Thomson, Eric Jollant, Joanie Blaikie serving as executive producers.
Director Stephen Hopkins has also executive produced the series. Vincent Cassel and Eva Green have been announced as lead cast members in June of 2021.
British actors Daniel Francis, Peter Mullan, Bukky Bakray and French actors Gérard Lanvin, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Stanislas Merhar, Laëtitia Eïdo, Thierry Frémont, Eriq Ebouaney have also joined the cast of the upcoming series.
Primary photography started in June of 2021 in London. The series is scheduled to be released on February 24, 2023 on Apple TV+.

Cast Members of Upcoming Series ‘Liaison’:
Vincent Cassel-
French actor Vincent Cassel is going to be one of the primary cast members of the upcoming series. His films include the 1995 French crime movie ‘La Haine‘ in which he starred in the role of Vinz and was nominated for the César Award for Best Actor and Most Promising Actor.
The same year he also starred as Camille Desmoulins in James Ivory’s historical drama film ‘Jefferson in Paris‘. In 1998 Cassel was cast as Henry, Duke of Anjou in Shekhar Kapur’s Academy Award nominated biographical period drama ‘Elizabeth’.
The next year he starred as Gilles de Rais in the English language French epic historical drama movie ‘The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc‘. He also starred in the erotic comedy thriller ‘Birthday Girl‘ as Alexei in 2001. The same year he also starred in the French film ‘Read My Lips‘ as Paul which gave him another nomination for the César Award for Best Actor.
For the 2008 two part French biography crime movie ‘Mesrine’, Cassel portrayed the titular real life French criminal Jacques Mesrine which earned him a number of accolades. In the popular American psychological horror movie ‘Black Swan‘, Cassel played Thomas Leroy in 2010.
His other nominated film credits include ‘Partisan’, ‘My King’, ‘It’s Only the End of the World’, ‘The Specials’ etc. Cassel has also given voice to a number of animated films which are ‘Shrek’, ‘Ice Age’, ‘Robots’, ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown’, ‘Lascars’, ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’, ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’, ‘The Little Prince’, ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’.
Eva Green-
French actress and model Eva Green is the other lead cast member of the upcoming series. In the 2011 fantasy historical drama series ‘Camelot‘ Green starred as part of the ensemble cast playing Morgan Pendragon.
From 2014 to 2016 she was cast as Venessa Ives in the horror drama series ‘Penny Dreadful‘. Then in 2020 she starred in the role of Lydia Wells in the drama miniseries ‘The Luminaries’. Green’s film credits are ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, ‘Casino Royale’, ‘The Golden Compass’, ‘Dark Shadows’, ‘300: Rise of an Empire‘, ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ etc.
Peter Mullan-
Scottish actor and filmmaker Peter Mullan will also be seen starring in the upcoming television series. His film credits include ‘Riff Raff’, ‘Trainspotting’, ‘My Name Is Joe‘, ‘Miss Julie‘, ‘Ordinary Decent Criminal’, ‘The Claim’, ‘Session 9‘, ‘The Magdalene Sisters’, ‘Young Adam’, ‘Criminal’, ‘The Last Legion’, ‘Tyrannosaur’, ‘Sunshine on Leith’, ‘Tommy’s Honour’, ‘The Vanishing’ etc.
Mullan has starred in other television series which include ‘The Trial of Tony Blair’, ‘The Fixer’, ‘Top of the Lake’, ‘Olive Kitteridge’, ‘Mum’, ‘Ozark‘, ‘Gunpowder’, ‘Westworld‘, ‘Cursed‘, ‘The Underground Railroad’, ‘The North Water’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘ etc.
For his role in ‘Top of the Lake’, Mullan was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.
Daniel Francis-
British actor Daniel Francis will be seen starring as a character named Albert Onwori in the upcoming series. His other television credits include ‘Homefront‘, ‘Once Upon a Time’, ‘Stay Close’ etc. Francis is also set to star in two other upcoming series bedside ‘Liaison’ which are ‘The Wheel of Time‘ and ‘Bridgerton‘.
Gérard Lanvin-
César Award winning French actor Gérard Lanvin is another cast member of the upcoming series. In the 1994 French drama movie ‘The Favourite Son’ he starred as Jean-Paul Mantegna for which he won the César Award for Best Actor.
