Bob Penny was an Alabama college professor and has played small but everlasting roles in a number of movies like Forrest Gump and Sweet Home Alabama to name a few. He died on Christmas day after completing 87 years on this planet.

Penny took his last breath in Huntsville, Alabama. However, the cause of death is not yet revealed, but according to rumors, he died because of some heart issue that he was suffering from. Bob’s family revealed that the celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. The family needs much needed to mourn right now.

Bob Penny was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1935. His full name was Dr. Robert Lynn “Bob” Penny. Bob earned his ‘pennies’ (pun intended) working as a professor of prose and poetry at University of Alabama for 21 long years.

Penny worked as a teacher before jumping into the world of the silver screen. He appeared in a series of commercials in the late 80s.

Bob shared a few words about his life on screen in 2008 with AL.com. In his interview, Bob said, “I was really lucky.” He added, “I had these very small roles, but they sure helped pay the mortgage.”

Talking about his life on screen, as said earlier, Bob started with commercials at first. After that, Bob didn’t look back. He appeared in almost 30 films and a number of television series throughout his life.

Penny played leading roles in popular films such as 1992’s My Cousin Vinny, 1994’s Forrest Gump, 2000s The Legend of Bagger Vance, and 2002’s Sweet Home Alabama.

Apart from all the screen stuff, Penny also did theatre. He performed in over 40 plays throughout the Southeast. In 2016, Bob made his last on-screen appearance in Billy Ray Cyrus’ sitcom Still the King 2016.

Talking about his achievements, Penny contributed a lot to poetry. He won the Silver Bowl Award at the Birmingham Festival of the Arts for his “Prologues to Home” in 1980.

Bob Penny was truly a great soul that left after contributing a lot to this world. May his soul rest in peace.
