Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) have really been criminal pairs for a while now, very literally. After the passing of Jen’s husband, Ted, the pair initially connected at a grieving support group. Judy joins her family by starting to assist her in caring for her sons, Charlie (Sam McCarthy) and Henry (Luke Roessler).

Jen eventually learns that Steve (James Marsden), Judy’s separated husband, and Ted were to blame for Ted’s passing since Judy was the one who was driving the automobile and Steve persuaded her to leave the scene after striking Ted.

At the conclusion of Part 1, Jen murders Steve on her lawn when he arrives and taunts her while insulting Judy brutally. The plot revolves around Jen’s preferred weapon, a bird statue that Judy gave Henry.

The specifics of Steve’s death aren’t made public until Season 2 when Jen briefly dates Steve’s identical younger brother, Ben (Marsden), who travels to the area in quest of information about his vanished brother, and Judy starts seeing Michelle (Natalie Morales).

The fact that Det. Perez (Diana-Maria Riva), who formerly dated Michelle, and Nick (Brandon Scott), who once dated Judy, are looking into Steve’s death just adds to the chaos.

Ben is likely heading route to identify the remains of his brother Steve, who’s been killed after being struck by the vehicle Je and Judy were driving at the crossroads.

Now that the whisky had been consumed, the struggling alcoholic also ran past the signalized intersection. It’s still unclear whether Ben is even aware that he was struck by Jen and Judy; the two saw him prior to being driven away.
