Kindred Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything We Know So Far!!!

“Kindred” is based on Octavia E. Butler’s hugely well-known and famous novel, which has been acclaimed as a visionary piece of science fiction since it was first released to the public more than four decades ago, in 1979.

Butler is also a MacArthur Fellow and Hugo Award recipient. The show follows the life of a lady named Dana, who moves to Los Angeles with the intention of beginning her life on her own terms. The show is based on the best-selling novel written by Octavia E. Butler.

Writer and showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is responsible for the adaptation of Kindred for television. He also serves as an executive producer on the show along with Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Darren Aronofsky, and Ari Handel of Protozoa Pictures, as well as Courtney Lee-Mitchell, Jules Jackson, and Ernestine Walker.

The new series was directed by Janicza Bravo, who also acted as an executive producer for the episode. FX Productions is responsible for the season’s production, which consists of eight episodes.

Kindred Official Release Date

Kindred, a new drama series from FX based on the Octavia E. Butler book, will debut on Hulu on Tuesday, December 13.

All eight episodes will be included at the premiere. Soon, viewers in Latin America will be able to watch the show on Star+, while viewers everywhere else will be able to watch it on Disney+ under the Star banner.

The announcement was made in October 2022 at New York Comic Con during a Kindred panel presentation that featured the cast members Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, David Alexander Kaplan, Sophina Brown, and Sheria Irving, in addition to showrunner and executive producer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.

Plot Details 

The FX show, which is an adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s Hugo Award-winning book Kindred, centers on “Dana James” (Mallori Johnson), a young black woman and aspiring writer who has left her life of duty to her family and moved to Los Angeles in preparation for a future that, for once, feels all her own.

However, she discovers herself being forcibly pushed back and forth in time before she can settle into her new house. She appears at a 19th-century plantation that has a close connection to Dana and her family.

Dana’s past and present are intertwined with an interracial romance, and time is running out as she tries to face issues she didn’t know ran in her family.

Is There A Trailer?

Yes, a trailer for the show “Kindred” has already been released. The preview for the series, which is a part of the cooperation between FX and Hulu, depicts Dana in a frightened state as she ping-pongs between her life in the past and her life with her partner, Kevin, in the present.

The gloomy and perplexing tone of the story is expertly established in the teaser, keeping viewers in the dark about Dana’s reality as much as she is.

Who Is Octavia E Butler?

Octavia Estelle Butler was an American author of science fiction and a multiple-time winner of the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award. Butler received the inaugural MacArthur Fellowship for science fiction in 1995.

Butler, a California native, was brought up by her mother, a widow. Octavia E Butler, who was very shy as a child, discovered writing and reading fantasy books in the library.

She started producing science fiction while still a teenager. The public responded favorably to her books and short stories, and accolades quickly followed. She subsequently moved to Washington and continued to teach writing courses. At the age of 58, Butler passed away after a stroke. Her papers are kept in the Huntington Library’s research collection.
