Her father, Boris Sagal, was a Ukrainian–Jewish immigrant who worked as a director, and her mother, Sara Zwilling, was a singer–songwriter. Sagal has three siblings: Julie, Jean, and Joe. Sagal began her acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in several television commercials.
Katey Sagal made her television debut in an episode of the sitcom The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang. Sagal‘s first major role was as Connie in the short–lived sitcom Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. In the 1980s, Sagal landed the role of Peggy Bundy on Married… with Children.
