DualSense Edge PS5 Controller Design, Price, Features, and More

The DualSense Edge was announced at the Opening Night Live presentation at Gamescom 2022.

Sony announced the controller during the event with an all-too-brief teaser, showcasing the improved controller and its unique capabilities that elevate it above the standard DualSense wireless controller.

From the front, the DualSense Edge looks very similar to a standard DualSense, except that it has a black touchpad rather than a white one like the standard model. It will also include a lovely white carrying case.

That controller will undoubtedly feel quite similar in the hand, which is a good thing considering the fantastic design of the standard DualSense. However, when you check under each thumbstick, you’ll notice a little toggle that indicates a significant difference. These provide easy access to controls for adjusting volume, mic input levels, and button profile on the fly.

Given that stick drift has wracked the DualSense, you’ll be able to buy only a replacement stick unit from PlayStation to replace each one on your DualSense Edge without requiring an expert to disassemble your controller is important news.

Price and Availability 

According to Sony, it will be priced at $199.99 and will be available internationally on January 26, 2023, maybe around the same time as PSVR 2. Unfortunately, no pricing in Australian dollars was provided.

Features 

The DualSense Edge may look the part, but its usefulness as an expert pad will be determined by its features. For the most part, it appears like Sony is going all out in this respect.

The Edge, as expected, will be very modular. The sticks, stick caps, and back paddles may all be replaced and adjusted to your liking. The layout and intensity of the controls are also totally customizable. Players will be able to entirely change their button layouts, as well as stick dead zones, trigger travel distance, and sensitivity.

All of this may be done on the fly by the controller. A dedicated Fn (function) button will launch a separate UI that allows users to change their controller settings quickly. You’ll also be able to store profiles for when you need them the most.

In addition, the DualSense Edge will have a braided USB-C cable that can lock into the controller to prevent accidental disconnects, making it ideal for competitive play in life circumstances. There will also be three sets of thumbstick toppers for individuals who like alternative grips on their sticks.

Battery Life

The DualSense’s main disadvantage is its short battery life. It falls well short of the pads on comparable systems, sometimes clocking in at 4-10 hours from a single charge.

If the DualSense line is your favorite way to play games, the Edge’s upfront cost may be worth it so you can change joysticks that create drift or other difficulties rather than spending money on new controllers every time.
