The plot follows the Japanese national football team as they attempt to rebound from their humiliating 16th-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Japanese Football Union has to do something dramatic, so they hire the mysterious and maybe insane Ego Jinpachi to discover a new superstar striker.
His plan, called Blue Lock, entails putting 300 young talented football players and forcing them to compete to determine who can score the most goals. Those who pass the test will be picked as the national team’s striker, while those who fail will be forbidden from playing for the rest of their lives.
Our protagonist, Yoichi Isagi, is a high school student picked for this plan. While skilled, he is haunted by thoughts of earlier defeats and thus cannot completely commit to the plan.
