The DioField Chronicle Transforms Real-Time Tactics Into RPG.

In a hands-on preview, I spent around three hours playing The DioField Chronicle, the first chapter of the game.

The gameplay impressed me because it’s simple enough for anyone who isn’t already very experienced with real-time strategy games.

The DioField Chronicle’s gameplay mechanics are user-friendly for a beginner like me who doesn’t play RTS games very frequently. Instead of adding extra mechanics, the game adopts a more narrowly focused approach to the genre.

You can send a group of up to four individuals out onto the battlefield in place of having tens of soldiers. You don’t need to establish bases or earn money for more units to be called in. It resembles leading an RPG party more than an army.

Even though I’ve never been a huge fan of RTS games, throughout my trial, I clearly recall Halo Wars. I distinctly recall experiencing a sense of anxiety and tension due to the numerous vehicles, troops, and locations I had to continuously monitor.

However, all you need to do in The DioField Chronicle is concentrate on your group of four (sometimes a fifth unit as well, as one of the beginning missions requires you to escort a defenseless carriage through the battlefield).

Winning the Battle of The DioField Chronicle

Each character has unique abilities that they may use in battle, including Andrias’ Assassination, in which he repeatedly slices through a single rival while leaving behind an echo of himself.

With the help of Waltaquin’s Convalescent Circle ability, a large region is formed where troops around periodically regain HP. These abilities have a dazzling appearance and seem to have come directly from a JRPG.

Examining the talent tree and later unlocking skills offer more cinematic views, enabling more dramatic graphics. Additionally, there are checkpoints where you can recover if you lose a battle even though you can’t save during it.

The gameplay of The DioField Chronicle has so far made a big impression. Despite just being in the first chapter, I can already peek at the menus and see the numerous choices for customizing troops, including the ability to create weapons, smaller units, and skill trees.

The beginning moments of The DioField Chronicle still maintain the traditional feel of a JRPG, an uncommon type of Japanese real-time strategic RPG.

If the game can maintain the pace of its combat development, the experience will remain engaging throughout. The cherry on top will be a fantastic narrative and an exciting cast of people.

Starting on September 22, The DioField Chronicle is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. In addition, players may get a demo starting on August 10.
