Did Britney Spears Target Selena Gomez?

Let me be clear that I share my beliefs about women judging other women for their own rights to express themselves,” Britney Spears began.

Her caption accompanied a drawing of a female silhouette with the caption: “A strong woman stands up for herself. A stronger woman stands up for everyone else.”

She continued: “What I said had absolutely nothing to do with anyone in particular… it was obviously a topic that all women had to deal with… look I’m back to music!!! I honestly refer back to my younger days when I was severely discriminated against…men in interviews discussing my breasts on live TV or showing my stomach and skin!!! If anyone knows how to judge, I’m sure Selena went through something similar.”

Social media users speculated that Britney Spears took aim at Gomez when she once urged young girls not to show skin on Instagram.

Social media users guessed that Spears’ original post was directed at Gomez, 30, based on the latter’s speech at the 2016 American Music Awards.

In particular, Gomez told the young girls that she “didn’t” want to see ”their” bodies” on Instagram.

The “Toxic” singer who is often nude on the social media app appeared to own the 2020 music video for “Ice Cream,” which Gomez shot with K-pop girl group Blackpink. “They say ‘This is NOT something I would do,’ but these women are the ones getting $4 million videos of sucking and licking homemade ice cream!!!!” she argued, adding that it should be up to women to choose how they want to “show off” their “beautiful bodies”.

On Wednesday, Spears explained that her “ice cream” comment was in reference to Kelis’ 2004 music video for “Milkshake” a project she applauded for its unapologetic display of s*xuality.

“And what I was responding to was honestly Kelis MILKSHAKE video when women finally shook their asses… that was the moment in history when people woke up to the fact… pushing the boundaries of expression became explicit… tons of people were offended! !!” wrote the Grammy winner.

“I empower women to express their bodies however they choose… and TONS of other stars who had million budget videos and were known to talk about her when she was a new artist trying to make it!!! I apologize for my ignorance, but I haven’t even seen the Ice Cream video by Selena Gomez, who I honestly look up to and respect.”

Spears also talked about the joy she felt when Gomez attended her star-studded wedding to husband Sam Asghari in June.

“As for the beautiful Queen Gomez, I had her surprise me on my wedding day and was totally in awe of her!!!” she wrote. “I mean I ‘d like an idiot for 5 minutes and I played my favorite song ‘Bad Liar’ on the floor loud like a 6-year-old fan and I got to sing my favorite song with her and I wanted to pinch myself damn!!!”

Spears elaborated, “I’d like to tell Selena, who probably isn’t even aware of the trash news, that her music has helped me a lot, and thank you again for making my dreams come true by coming to my wedding… you’re the one person I have. I always wanted to meet and my dream came true and I will never forget it!!!”

Gomez has yet to respond to Spears’ posts. However, it seems she may be taking some time off as she announced via her Instagram Story on Wednesday that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
