My Father’s Dragon Netflix Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything you need to know

My Father’s Dragon is the next stunning animated film from Cartoon Saloon, the creators of Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers, and has a stellar vocal cast that includes Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo, along with Alan Cumming, Adam Brody, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Based on Ruth Stiles Gannett’s 1948 book Elmer and the Dragon and written by Inside Out author Meg LeFauve, the story depicts Elmer as he flees to a Wild Island to save a newborn dragon.

“Our performers, animators, and artists at Cartoon Saloon collaborated to create this short, which was inspired by Ruth Stiles Gannett’s great book,” says director Nora Twomey. “We came together because we wanted to present a really remarkable story of friendships, exploration, and true bravery.”

My Father’s Dragon will be available on Netflix globally on Friday, November 11, 2022, so there won’t be too much time to wait.

The Plot

My Father’s Dragon portrays Elmer, who is having to adjust to his mother’s relocation to the city. But then he flees to Wild Island in pursuit of a caged baby dragon and discovers very much more than he ever imagined. Elmer’s travels take him to fearsome monsters, a secret island with a ‘tiger forest,’ and a bond that will last a lifetime.
