Have you ever wanted to control a story, decide where it is heading, and perhaps, just before the finish, mix things up a bit? Then I’ve got some excellent news for you! You have control over the new card game Foretales by Alkemi.
In Foretales, your choices are so important that how the story progresses (and ends) entirely depends on them.
So, as we pursue Volepain, you’re getting a treat. A thief who is ready to steal a magical lyre that will essentially flip the world upside down in this new game.
Dear Villagers
In Foretales, as I indicated in the introduction, we follow Volepain. This person is a thief who has been given the mission of locating a magical lyre. But as soon as he touches this priceless item, his life is changed, and he realizes his impending death.
From this point on, nothing is known, and the tale entirely depends on your decisions during the game. Although the game gives you options for pathways to go, the decision-making ultimately rests with you, the player. This also implies that the endings will vary if you play through the game more than once.
There’s some top-notch replayability there. Given that you feel in total control, I think the developers did a great job here. And I believe the system does a perfect job of providing specific doom countdowns (clear things in x steps or its game over) and then playable ways to prevent them.

I first explained the storyline and how cards are crucial to it all. Let’s now discuss how everything functions, which it does! There are several pathways to play/follow on the global map. You receive a layout and a few cards when you choose a path to play.
Then, until you receive the situation where you need to go and take a specific action, you may think of the cards as scenarios you need to clear (for example, you need to release someone from prison).
Once this is finished, you will go on to the following scenario, and so on, until you have achieved your aim and stopped a specific terrible event. You will occasionally also need to participate in combat, which works similarly to the combat system seen in most card games.
However, fighting is not your only choice; you may also attempt to bribe your adversaries or reap their souls. And until your tale is over, this keeps happening. I know this may seem challenging, and I found it tough to explain it to my girlfriend, but I can assure you that while it may appear complex, the makers succeeded in making this a fun game.

Graphics and Audio
The cards and the game both have excellent designs. The game matches the theme so well and gives you the creepy impression that something horrible is about to happen.
Additionally, each of the many cards you’ll encounter has a distinct appearance and is quite detailed, significantly adding to the atmosphere that Foretales’ creators sought to evoke. But you can’t succeed just on your appearance, and fortunately for us, this new title also has excellent acoustics.
Its enigmatic yet soothing music perfectly complements the notion of mischief. This is finished brilliantly with some good sound effects and exciting narration. I couldn’t have done it myself any better.
Conclusion
In the realm of card-based video games, Foretales conveys an exciting story while still being original in its gameplay. It moves quickly, challenges players to consider their choices and effects, and explores more intimate interpersonal connections and the fate of the globe.
