Season 2 of the successful fantasy series Shadow and Bone is on the way.’ Shadow and Bone is a fantasy series that is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse and is an adaptation of her ‘Shadow and Bone trilogy and ‘Six of Crows duology.
Eric Heisserer developed this popular American show that was released on April 23, 2021, on Netflix. Season one consisted of eight episodes. The planning of this series by Netflix was first announced in January 2019.
Eric Heisserer was announced to be the showrunner and creator of the first season. The project was under Shawn Levy executive producer of Netflix. Eric Heisserer also served as an executive producer along with Lee Toland Krieger, Shawn Levy, Shelley Meals, etc.
What is the Grishaverse?
The nations Ravka, Shu Han, Fjerda, Kerch, Wandering Isle, and Novyi Zem make the Grisha universe together. All these fictional nations are described as having adapted real-life elements of different languages, traditions, and cultures.
The inhabitants of this universe use magic in their lives, though they do not describe themselves as “magic-users”, but the practitioners of “The Small Science”. By this magic, they are able to manipulate matter to the smallest level which is the molecular level.

What happens in the first season?
The nation around which most of the first season of the tv series has centered is Ravka. Ravka is is at an internal war for a long time which involves the East portion and West portion of the nation. As the West now wants complete independence, the whole nation is on the brink of splitting up.
At the center of the plot is Alina Starkov, a young Grisha who has the rare ability to control light. She is an orphan and was an assistant cartographer of the Royal Corps of Surveyors of the First Army in the past.
As the story unfolds Alina finds herself amidst a number of hostile pursuits that are chasing her after she is known to be a Sun Summoner.
The Crows’ group leader Kaz Brekker wants to kidnap her whereas the witch hunters of Fjerdan want to kill her. But all this time Ravka’s own people deem her as a Saint and bestow her with veneration. Alina must combat these unfriendly treatments and fight to save Ravka from the Fold by searching for her true power.

Cast members of the first season:
English actress Jessica Mei Li portrays the main role of Alina in the series. Other cast members of the first season were Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Ben Barnes, Zoë Wanamaker, etc.
These primary cast members along with Li were announced to have joined the cast of the series on October 2, 2019.
Announcement of Shadow and Bone Season 2:
On June 7 of 2021, Jessica Mei Li along with her other co-stars were seen in a video on Netflix’s official YouTube site sharing the announcement of the renewal of a second season of the series.
A Sneak Peek featuring some of the quick snaps of and moments of the newest season, which will also expectedly run successfully, has been available on YouTube since September 24 of this year.
Though an official trailer or teaser is yet to be aired, this announcement and sneak peek videos have only succeeded to arouse the level of excitement surrounding the show.
Cast Members of the Shadow and Bone Season 2?
With Li reprising her role as Alina Starkov, all the other primary characters including Archie Renaux, Amita Suman, Freddy Carter, and Kit Young are expected to return in their respective roles.
Also, Daisy Head, Danielle Galligan, and Calahan Skogman who acted in recurring roles in the first season are presumed to be taking over main roles in the second. New members joining the cast of season two are Lewis Tan, Patrick Gibson, Anna Leong Brophy, and Jack Wolfe.
At the time when the second season of the series was renewed, Netflix also revealed that the total number of households watching season one in the first twenty-eight days of release is fifty-five million.
The show has also been able to attract the attention of critics though some of them pointed out the similarities between the show’s content with that of more popular and well-established fantasy series like ‘Harry Potter, ‘Game of Thrones, and ‘The Hunger Games. Nevertheless, it gained an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and sixty-eight out of hundred scores on Metacritic.
The second season of ‘Shadow and Bones’ will take its content from ‘Siege and Storm’. The precise date of release has not yet been announced for the show. But it is confirmed that it will arrive in 2023.
