Anne Hathaway Reacts to NYFW Devil Wears Prada Incident.

Published by

After causing a social media frenzy by recreating a Devil Wears Prada outfit during this year’s New York Fashion Week, Anne Hathaway revealed the truth behind her costume.

Andy Sachs famously exits the fashion industry at the conclusion of The Devil Wears Prada, but Anne Hathaway has embraced her role as a style icon, and she was pleased to resurrect the character for a night, even if it was by chance.

In 2022, we all watched Anne Hathaway channeling her inner Andy Sachs.

And as revolutionary as it was, it was entirely accidental.

Nearly a month after turning eyebrows at a Michael Kors presentation during New York Fashion Week dressed very much like her Devil Wears Prada persona, Anne admitted that her outfit—which she wore while sitting next to Anna Wintour, no less—was not planned.

During an interview with Savannah Guthrie on Today, the Oscar winner admitted to mistakenly dressing as Sachs during New York Fashion Week last month, when she donned a brown crocodile coat, turtleneck top, and skirt, as well as bangs and a high ponytail to the Michael Kors show.

“Wasn’t it a little insane? It happened by chance, “She stated this on the Today show on October 12th. “I was meant to dress differently. Because the shoes did not fit, this was the other outfit that arrived.”

“And then my hairdresser, who was so lovely—I had never worked with him before—just said, ‘Oh I know what to do,’ and he threw my hair up in a ponytail,” she revealed of her pulled-back, bang-styled ‘do. “And I glanced in the mirror and thought to myself, ‘Oh that’s amusing, I wonder whether anyone would notice.’”

If you haven’t watched the 2006 film in a while, Anne’s Sept. 14 elegant all-brown ensemble echoed the attire actress character Andy wore in the Devil Wears Prada’s last scene.

Furthermore, during the NYFW event, Anne was seated next to none other than the Vogue editor-in-chief—who, of course, was the inspiration for Miranda Priestley (played by Meryl Streep).

Even if it was not on purpose, it is nevertheless a thrilling occasion for us.
