Polar Pacer Pro: The Coolest New Smartwatch For Competitive Runners

Published by

There are several varieties of smartwatches that are better suited to different activities and scenarios. Others are suitable for regular use, others are more suitable for the gym, and some even resemble a diver’s watch. Then there are sports smartwatches, like the Polar Pacer Pro, which is the subject of this review. The design is athletic, and the functioning is centered on the athlete.

Polar Pacer Pro Review

It fits a broad range of wrist sizes

One of my main complaints about smartwatches is how bulky many of them are. They slip about as I run and appear out of place on my small wrists, clearly intended with men in mind.

On the other hand, the strap is charming, securely wrapping around my wrist without cramping, itching, or interfering with my run.

Apps and software

Visually, the Polar Pacer Pro program is a step back in time. There are many plain lines, colors, and pixels, but not much design flare. It serves its purpose admirably.

The many buttons are used to navigate the menus, and the lack of a touchscreen contributes to the vintage vibe yet makes sense when considering ease of use while running.

More processing power and RAM than prior Polar smartwatches make it quick and easy to use regularly. I haven’t been disappointed with Pacer Pro’s performance in any way.

The Polar Pacer Pro rewards regular usage, and if you’re not particularly athletic, you won’t profit from its full potential. It takes numerous exercises and multiple nights of sleep to give anything in the way of in-depth analysis, so moderately active folks will wonder for a long if it’s accomplishing anything at all.

When you’re not on track with your sleep or exercise routine, it’s obvious. If you don’t get enough sleep, “Compromised” displays yellow on the sleep screen to remind you how horrible you are, while the workout screen counts the days since your last workout to inspire or guilt you into doing something.

The screen is bright and clear

The Pacer Pro’s display is, in my opinion, its best feature. It’s a noticeable step up from older Polar watches, which weren’t wrong in their own right, thanks to several improvements, including a thinner (1.1 millimeters) glass screen that’s just as durable as before; a memory-in-pixel reflective color display that’s highly readable in all conditions.

Even bright ones; and improved backlight management, which lets you adjust the screen brightness to high, medium, low, or only with the light button. Of course, that description will be meaningless until you get your hands on one and feel how brilliant and sharp it is.

The heart rate monitoring is more accurate than previously

Gizmochina

Although wrist-based heart rate monitors are fundamentally less accurate than chest- or finger-based monitors, Polar is continually refining its heart rate measurement technology (and offers much-appreciated transparency about its methods).

The Pacer Pro’s better heart rate tracking may be ascribed to an updated algorithm, a smaller sensor, the incorporation of 10 LED lights with varying wavelengths, and four light detectors. Consequently, you get a better (though still imperfect) read on what your heart is doing when you’re pounding the pavement.

Final thoughts

I’m not naming the Polar Pacer Pro my favorite watch ever because the time I’ve had feels too short for such a significant declaration.

It has everything I’m looking for in a running smartwatch: it’s lightweight, comfortable, stylish, and, most importantly, performs well. It includes a speedier CPU, more precise GPS, heart rate tracking, and an incredibly legible display compared to previous Polar models. It also has an inbuilt barometer, a slew of training tools, and recuperation tips.
