Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Launch Date, Gameplay, and More

Next month, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be launched, but there will be a beta before that – and there is so much information about the next game that it may be overwhelming.

So what can you predict from the reboot of the famous 2019 game? We’ve compiled everything we know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in one spot so you don’t have to seek all the critical information elsewhere.

Date of release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The date of release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is October 28, 2022. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard were released in mid-November, it appears like Activision is taking advantage of a weaker fall release window to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 out sooner than expected.

Story

Famous characters Captain John Price and John “Soap” MacTavish appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which has a completely different storyline from the 2009 first game of the same name.

The story is set in 2022, three years after Price created Task Force 141 as a terrorist unit. After a US missile strike, the squad will be tasked with containing the situation while battling the terrorist organization Al-Qatala and the drug gang Las Alamas.

The narrative missions will take place in a variety of places throughout the world, including European countries, Asia, and the United States. It has also been revealed that there will be hidden missions and “all-out explosives attacks” on enemy strongholds to mix up the gameplay.

We don’t currently know much more, but we’re confident that Infinity Ward will provide more details closer to launch.

Gameplay

Modern Warfare 2 will, according to Activision, be “the most sophisticated experience in series history” and will be powered by a brand-new iteration of Infinity Ward’s breathtaking IW Engine. Despite claiming to be a “global gameplay reveal video,” the first Modern Warfare 2 trailer mainly consists of cutscenes.

However, during our hands-on preview, we witnessed a little more gameplay, and during E3, we watched a good portion of an inspiring mission. In one challenge, players had to cross a deck of containers that were sliding about on a shipping barge during a storm. It seems somewhat strange.

According to what we’ve seen, the gameplay includes a daring rappel down the side of a skyscraper, a night vision mission involving a downed Apache helicopter, and the aforementioned water-based task that will take advantage of Modern Warfare 2’s impressive visual quality and new water mechanics.

Multiplayer

Modern Warfare 2 will include online multiplayer and a few new game modes.

Knockout will include 6v6 bouts with no respawns, so you won’t be able to go into combat recklessly. Instead, teams will battle for control of a package, with the team owning the package at the end of a match considered the winner.

Another new multiplayer option is Prisoner Rescue, where each team is allocated as either the attacker or the defender. The former is entrusted with rescuing captives from a structure, while the defenders must prevent them from doing so.

The forthcoming shooter will also have a redesigned Gunsmith to allow additional customization options.
